The Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Awards event is an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate achievements of a hapū member, hapū group or hapū organisation. The ideal candidates have been inspirational and have achieved extraordinary things and making a positive difference to you and/or the lives of others.
There are 11 categories that you can nominate someone or an organisation or group. The categories are: Hākinakina – Sports, Hapori Māori – Community, Hauora – Health and Wellbeing, Kaumātua Ora, Mahi Toi – Arts, Mātauranga – Education, Mauitanga – Innovation, Pakihi – Business, Taiao – Environmental, Te Tohu Huia te Reo – Māori Language, Te Whetū Maiangi – Young Achievers- more information on nomination form.
The winners will be announced at the Awards Dinner on 26th October 2019 at the Grand Millennium Hotel, Auckland. Tickets can be purchased shortly.
What is the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Awards event about?
The Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Awards event is an acknowledgement and celebration of the incredible contributions and achievements that hapū members are making within their whānau, communities and beyond.
When and where is the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Awards event?
This is the first year we will be holding the event. The event is a formal dinner and will be held on Saturday 26th October 2019 at the Millenium Hotel, Auckland.
How much does it cost to attend the event?
The tickets are $50.00 per person or $500.00 for a table of 10 people. You can expect a 3-course meal and entertainment.
When do nominations open and close?

Nominations close midnight Sunday 1st October 2019. No nominations will be accepted after the closing date.
Who will choose the finalists?
The judges are made up of hapū representatives from the Marae, Trust Board and education/business/community sectors. The judges will use a rigorous process for selecting the finalists.
Who can be nominated for a Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Award?
Anyone who is a registered hapū member of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei can be nominated for an award. If you are unsure whether they are registered, we will check the hapū registration database.
Can a non-NWO hapū member nominate a hapū member?
Yes. Anyone is able to nominate a hapū member as long as the nomination is submitted by the closing date (1st October 2019).
Can I nominate myself?
Yes, as long as you are a registered hapū member, you can self-nominate.
Can I nominate someone who is a trustee/director of any of the Boards of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei or kaimahi from Whai Maia or Whai Rawa?
Yes, you can nominate someone who is a trustee or kaimahi, however the nomination should be for work that the person is doing outside of their role within these organisations.
Will the person I nominate know that I have nominated them?
We will let them know they have been nominated, but we will not disclose who has nominated them.
