Matatini 2021.

I tae mai te mauri o Te Matatini ki Tāmaki! Hui e! Taiki e! In preparation for Te Matatini 2021, a hand over of the mauri of Te Matatini took place at Westpac Stadium, in Wellington as the week of festivities concluded. Rōpū from Tāmaki gathered at Ōrākei Marae the following Wednesday to complete the exchange and place the mauri at our Marae. Planning for Te Matatini 2021 has commenced so watch this space.

We followed four of our Whātua cuzzies and their Kapa haka on the road to Te Matatini 2019 through Snapchat takeovers! This year Hātea Kapa Haka took out the Hakapaki Ki Te Matatini 2019 campaign.

Ngā Rau o te Kāhu 2019

Ngā Rau o te Kāhu 2019, the primary school Kapa Haka festival was a blast! 

Ngā mihi aroha to all of the kura who gave it their all on the Haka stage – kino te pai! Mean as!

Puanga | Matariki ki Ōrākei Marae

In June 2019 to acknowledge Puanga & Matariki we held some special Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei events at Orākei Marae.  

It was awesome to see all the pūkenga and mātauranga amongst our whānau and to see how keen we were to share their learnings and observations of the taiao with each other. Here’s a sneak peek into this years Matariki celebrations. 

Mother’s Day 2019

E mihi ana to all who attended the 2019 Mothers Day Breakfast at Orākei Marae. A beautiful day celebrating the beautiful māreikura in our lives. And a very special mention to Ocean Blue , hosts extraordinaire – ko te manaaki tangata kei a koutou.

Education Summit 2019

The Education Summit was a day to empower our tamariki, rangatahi and whānau – to let them know that the future is theirs! The day included live entertainment, stalls of partners and four awesome workshops run by Young Engineers, Young Animators, Code Avengers and StudyFit. We had a blast sharing the day with you all.

Polyfest Profiles

To celebrate and support te reo māori and the māori performing arts, we gave away a free NWO merch pack to all of our Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Kapa Haka cuzzies that performed at the Māori stage this year.

Tamaki kapa haka regionals

Kei whea mai i ngā kapa I tū i ngā rā okioki nei, he ātaahua, he pārekareka! Kātuarere ngā mahi, ngā mahi a te rēhia a tēnā kapa, a tēnā kapa, a, haramai tētahi āhua! He rawe te kitenga atu i ngā whanau e tū maia ana i ngā kapa rerekē. Ahakoa tēnā, ngā mihi ki ngā tuakana me ngā teina e tūtaki ana ki te whakataetae nā. Apihai Te Kawau Day

On the 20th March 1840, Apihai Te Kawau signed the Treaty of Waitangi signalling the beginning of our relationship with the Crown. 
On the 20th March 2018 – we acknowledged this hononga by hosting a hapū breakfast.
