Another way Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei’s Ōrākei Health is uniting against Covid-19 was to become a designated clinic. We are now delivering free Covid-19 swabbing to any whānau or member of our local communities who have cold or flu like symptoms to ensure our whānau and community are as safe as possible during winter.

If you or any of your whānau have cold or flu like symptoms please call Ōrākei Health on (09) 578 0956 to book you in with the Doctor.

Influenza – or the flu – is a virus that spreads quickly from person to person. As part of its response to COVID-19, the Ministry of Health are prioritizing vaccination of those at greatest risk of influenza in 2020. We urge you all to get your Influenza Vaccine at your GP or local pharmacy. Remember to call and book ahead and follow the social distancing guidelines.

FREE vaccines are available:

  • If you are pregnant, over 65 years old or have a chronic health condition i.e. diabetes, heart or lung disease – the influenza vaccine may be FREE through the Ministry of Health funded scheme. Book an appointment with your registered GP or local pharmacy TODAY.
  • For all whānau covered by nib under the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei health insurance policy. Check your emails for your e-voucher to get your FREE flu vaccine at your local Unichem or Life Pharmacy. (Valid for members over 13 years old)
  • Children under the age of 13 are not free at the GP (unless they meet the funded criteria). Please contact your family doctor for clarity or phone the Immunisation Advisory Centre (IMAC) on 0800 466 863.

To help Ngāti Whātua Orakei understand the impact of COVID-19 for whānau, a household survey was developed canvassing health, education, housing, employment and finance. The response from the Whānau Survey was overwhelming and the insights that we have gathered are significant in shaping how, what and why does support look like for our whānau through these unprecedented times.
