PROGRAMMES, SERVICES AND GRANTS

Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Whai Maia has a wide range of programmes, services and grants that are available for Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei hapū members. We have experienced kaimahi who are able to provide assistance, guidance and help with these programmes, services and grants, depending on your circumstances.  Below is a list of provisions for each age group.

Swimming Grant

Tamariki Ora

This is a free home-based service for all pēpi from birth to five years to support the health and wellbeing of pēpi.

Weaving Waiora Wānanga

This is a free kaupapa Māori ante-natal wānanga to support hapū māmā and whānau on their parenting journey.  The wānanga is for hapū māmā who are registered with Tamariki Ora.

Baradene Scholarship

Up to $2,200.00

Two scholarships are offered annually to high achieving young girls.  The scholarship is a partnership between the school, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei and the family and is targeted towards Year 7 - Year 13 students. Whai Maia will contribute up to $2,200.00 towards the scholarship.

Digital Device – Year 6+

This year applicants have the option of receiving a digital device, i.e. Chromebook, or the education grant. Offered to Year 6 and above students. Applicants who opt for the device may be requested to attend a Whai Maia educational workshop.

Ōrākei Marae-based Holiday Programme

A 5-day marae-based holiday programme for Year 4 to 8 students (ages 8-12 years old) and is held at Ōrākei Marae.  Tamariki are immersed in tikanga, waiata, whakawhanaungatanga, history, educational and fun activities. We are limited to 40 tamariki at the holiday programme. There is a small fee of $100.00 for attending which helps cover trips, kai, accommodation and resourcing costs. A discount is offered to whānau with more than one child attending.

Primary & Intermediate School Grant

The grant is to support Primary and Intermediate education for tamariki. This year whānau have the option of receiving the education grant or a digital device (up to the value of $450.00). Applicants who opt for the device may be requested to attend a Whai Maia educational workshop.

5-Day Trophy Voyage

This is a 5-day voyage for 10 rangatahi in Year 10.  The Voyage is part of the Spirit of Adventure programme and develops leadership skills and self-confidence. There is a small fee of $100.00 for applicants to attend.

Cadetships & Apprenticeships

Ongoing

 

Cadetships and Apprenticeships offer training for rangatahi who are not in school but would like to learn and build skills in a particular job or industry.  Whai Maia will promote the opportunities as they become available.

Kura Tuarua Pānui

A monthly e-pānui for Secondary students to keep them in the loop with whānau profiles, scholarships, grants, study tips and tricks.

Kura Tuarua Yearbook

This is an annual yearbook that recognises all the hard work our rangatahi have completed throughout the year.  It is a way of celebrating success and achievement, as well as role modelling to our whānau.

Spirt of Adventure Scholarship

This 5-day voyage focuses on developing team work, leadership and self-belief skills.  There will be two successful recipients per year funded to attend this programme through a partnership between Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei and Spirit of Adventure.

Study Wānanga

Summer Internship

Summer Internships give applicants the opportunity to gain work experience with Whai Maia in various roles across the organisation, e.g. marketing, whenua, early childcare, community services, or health services. The successful applicants are placed on a fixed term paid contract. Internship placements are limited.

Tertiary Education Grants

This is to provide financial assistance to support Tertiary students with education related costs.  The grant is dependant on the level of qualification and the FTE (full-time equivalent) status.   


·       Certificate/Diploma full-time: $500.00

·       Undergraduate Degree full-time: $1,000.00

·       Post-Graduate Degree full-time: $1,500.00

·       Masters full-time: $4,000.00

·       PHD full-time: $5,000.00

Innovation

Whai Maia places a great value on innovation. We are constantly trying to find new ways or better ways of doing things. We have developed Apps that tell stories of our history and bring to life our rich heritage and culture.

 

Koi Café

Koi is situated at Takaparawhau - Bastion Point on Hapimana Street, Orākei. Koi serves delicious coffee, tea and cold drinks and is open daily from 9am – 4pm.

 

Okahu Rākau

Okahu Rakau are kaitiaki of our whenua and they help to increase the biodiversity of birdlife, plants, insects and habitats which incorporates a combination of our organic, ethical and sustainability values. Okahu Rakau maintain our native bush and other landscape projects with plants supplied by our own nursery.

 

Orākei Health Services

 

Orākei Health Services is a health clinic situated at Eastridge Shopping Mall in Orākei that provides quality primary health care for the community.

 

Puna Reo Okahu Kura

Located at 222 Kupe Street, the Puna provides quality early learning services in a kaupapa Māori setting and is proudly managed and owned by Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei.
