Te Ahurei

KA TŪ TE AHUREI O NGĀTI WHĀTUA!

Ā te Rāhoroi, 19 o Whiringa-ā-rangi 2022 ka tū Te Ahurei o Ngāti Whātua.

Ka huihui mai ngā hapū katoa o Ngāti Whātua, mai i Maunganui ki Tāmaki ki Ōkahu, ki Tāmaki Makaurau. He rā kapa haka, he rā whakawhanaunga, he rā kaitahi.

Te Ahurei o Ngāti Whātua is happening!!! It is a well needed day together as an iwi to celebrate our Ngāti Whātuatanga, and whanaungatanga after two years covid.

It will be at Ōkahu Bay where all hapū from Maunganui to Tāmaki will gather to have a day of kapa haka, whanaungatanga and kaitahi.

There will be four groups in attendance.

TAKIWĀ. GROUPS

Te Wairoa (Dargaville area)

Te Uri o Hau (Central Kaipara area)

Kaipara ki te Tonga (South Kaipara area)

Ngāti Whātua ki Tāmaki ( Ōrākei/ Auckland area)

Each group will perform the same four items; .

  1. The new Ngāti Whātua haka pōhiri

  2. Mōteatea: Hiwi Onepū

  3. Waiata ā-ringa: Waihekeao

  4. Haka: Te Puru

Each group is also allowed to add other items to a max of 25min on stage.

The reason for the four compulsory items it so that we as a tribe can stand together and do mass items. The Matatini will be one of these events.
