We followed four of our Whātua cuzzies and their Kapa haka on the road to Te Matatini 2019 through Snapchat takeovers! Our four whātua cuzzies performed in rōpū across the North Island and were given the title ‘hakapaki’ taken from the word ‘atapaki’ which means Snapchat – See what we did there??
Hakapaki/Snapchat Takeovers
Each hakapaki took over the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Snapchat for one whole week and did this twice during their haka campaign. Thank you to everyone who tuned in. We hope you enjoyed following our Hakapaki on their journey to Te Matatini 2019. Check out the highlights from our takeovers.

Whiua ki te ao – showing the world how you do it!
Our Hakapaki and their rōpū each created a video that showcased their rōpū journey to Te Matatini ki te Ao. The whānau voted and this years Hakapaki winner is Hātea Kapa Haka! They received an outstanding total of 469 votes which means they will be going home with the $1000 prize for their rōpū. Pīki mihi to Marcia and Otene for always making us laugh and showing us the behind the scenes Hātea action!
