Hono – Privacy

PRIVACY STATEMENT

This Privacy Statement sets out how Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Trust (we, us or our) collects, uses and discloses your personal information when you download and use our Hono App (Hono App).

Collection and Use of Personal Information

We collect personal information when you use our Hono App. The types of personal information that we collect will depend on the purpose we are collecting it for and may include your first, middle and last names, residential address, nationality, gender, e-mail address, phone numbers, date of birth, country of residence and your current location. 

We use the information we collect through our Hono App and the personal information that you choose to provide to us through the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei CRM hapū database (CRM) to allow us to deliver services to you through our Hono App. In delivering these services, some of the specific uses include:

  • to allow us to communicate with members (this communication may include updating you on upcoming iwi functions and forwarding of information, communications or offers from other parties);
  • maintaining our whakapapa, membership, and hapū databases;
  • providing your personal information to our service providers and contractors to help us operate our Hono App (for example, we have service providers that help us operate and develop our computer systems, send out email and clean collected data);
  • to provide you with marketing and promotional material from our members or other third parties (you may opt-out of receiving marketing and promotional material at any time);
  • to contact you in response to general enquiries;
  • to develop, improve and refine the services delivered through our Hono App; and
  • for archival purposes which involves maintaining a database of all current users of our Hono App.

If you do not provide us with the personal information we request through our Hono App or the information we hold on you in our CRM is not complete or accurate, it may impact your ability to access and use the services provided through our Hono App.

Access and Correction

You can request access to the personal information we hold about you at any time. We will almost always provide you with access to this information, however there are some circumstances where we will refuse to grant you access, such as if disclosure of the information would pose a serious threat to the life, health or safety of any individual. 

You may also request that we correct any personal information we hold on you. When you request a correction, or at any later time, you may:

  • provide us with a statement of the correction you would like us to make (correction statement); and
  • request that we attach the correction statement to the relevant information if we do not make the requested correction.

If we do not make the correction and you have provided us with a correction statement, we will make sure the correction statement is attached to the relevant information so that anyone with access to the information will also see the correction statement.

Retention of Your Personal Information

If you delete the App, we will still retain personal information we have collected from you on our CRM, such as information you have provided when you registered your membership with us.

Transfer of Personal Information

We may use third party service providers to store or host the personal information we collect from you. This information may be stored or hosted outside of New Zealand.

It may be necessary from time to time to share your personal information with our group companies, affiliates and related entities. We may also share your personal information with third party service providers to assist us in performing any of the tasks described above under the “Use of Personal Information” heading. Outside of this we will not provide your personal information to any other third parties, unless there is a legal obligation to do so.

Unless we are legally required to disclosure your personal information, we will make sure that we only share your personal information if we believe that the party we are sharing the information with is required to protect the information in a way, that, overall provides safeguards which are comparable to the safeguards afforded to you under the Privacy Act 2020.
