Aotearoa is currently riding an unprecedented wave of success in Mixed Martial Arts due to the amazing exploits of Eugene Bareman, the team at City Kick Boxing and UFC stars such as Kai Kara France, Shane Young, Brad Riddel, Dan Hooker, and current UFC middle weight champion Israel Adesanya.
Inspired by the two visit’s CKB made to the Marae pre-covid, Toi Whātua is inviting expressions of interests for the first of the 8 weeks Mixed Martial Arts courses for adults beginning shortly.
Funds to cover fees and equipment will be made available to assist whānau who are either studying or are currently looking for Mahi. Subsidies can also be made available for those who are not currently employed by the Iwi. Current employees of the Iwi can still apply but will need to cover the full cost of the fees and equipment.
Registrations are limited, and priority will be given to those who
1) Are currently or will register for a Toi Whātua Reo or Kapa Haka class.
2) Will attend the info evening and all 7 compulsory training sessions at City Kick Boxing.
4) Will attend the final sparring exam on week 8 of the course.
The key purpose of this kaupapa is to re-ignite the essence and key principles of Mauri Toa, Hauora and Reo Ora!
