Whai Māia Future Director

The Whai Māia Future Director programme is designed to develop the next generation of hapū directors by encouraging whānau to develop social development and business acumen, governance experience and become actively involved in the leadership of the hapū.

The Role

The future director will be exposed to the boardroom environment, will attend all Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Whai Māia board meetings and be treated as a board member and participate in board matters. The future director will be assigned an experienced mentor from the Whai Māia board to support their growth and development. They will have no voting rights and will not form part of the quorum of a board meeting.

Tenure is for two years and there are attendance fees associated with the role. 

Selection Criteria

Candidates must be registered members of the hapū. 

      • Have strong existing or potential cultural, social development and/or environment skills
      • Are committed to contributing to the development of a positive Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei future
      • Are committed to understanding the history and culture of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei
