Whenua

Information on what's happening on our whenua

Toi Taiao deals with all matters related to our environment, including land, waters and sites of significance for cultural heritage. We develop and implement strategies, projects and programmes and services that promote the mana whenua and rangatiratanga of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei in Tāmaki, with a focus on kaitiakitanga (safeguarding and enhancing people, the environment and its resources, and our taonga and heritage places).

Toi Taiao includes two operating teams. Pou Whenua delivers services on our own land, including development and husbandry of the Pourewa and Whenua Rangatira Reserves. The team also delivers landscaping and maintenance services for Council and other agencies across Tāmaki.

Pou Tuhono focuses on developing environmental policy and promoting our aims and objectives at national, regional and local levels. The team also delivers cultural responses and works to safeguard our cultural heritage on the ground.
