Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Native Bush Care and Nursery are Kaitiaki of our Ecological restoration project.
The project is to increase the biodiversity of birdlife, plants, insects and habitats which incorporates a combination of our organic, ethical and sustainability values. (No chemicals) We maintain our Native bush and other landscape projects with plants supplied by our own Nursery.
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei welcome, all manuhiri (visitors) who support Ecological Restoration projects through volunteering and community planting days.
Ensuring our story is told to share knowledge and strengthen relationships with the greater peoples of Tāmaki Makaurau and abroad.

Volunteer Project Activities are:
Hand release planted areas: This activity is to ensure optimal growth potential. You will learn how to expose the plant trunk or base of the plant by removing/pulling grass growth around the plant. It is best practice to pull small manageable clumps of grass away from the plant, ensuring the whole plant is not pulled out from the ground.
Planting trees: This activity is to support the restoration of native bush for all creatures. You will be shown how to plant a tree and told the methodology of our plant layout.
Rubbish collection: This activity is supporting the environment and wildlife. You will be shown a bush area or beach foreshore to remove all rubbish and waste.
Nursery support: This activity is to support our native bush growth. You will participate in skills-based actions which may vary from potting, weeding, relocating plants and washing equipment.

Plants + Gumboots + shovels + NWO whānau = a successful planting day at Pourewa. It was great to see so many whānau come out for our first ever whānau planting day.
