Ko Te Pukaki

Ko Te Pukaki is the name given to Ecological Restoration Project est 2001 eco sourcing from within the Tāmaki Ecological district for NWŌ Whenua Rangatira (Takaparawhau) co-managed by NWō Reserves Board est 1991 

Ko Te Pukaki taken from a whakatauki used by kaumātua when the location of NWŌ Wharenui Timtimuwhenua was chosen and the first turning of soil enhanced with karakia for the mauri of Ōrākei Marae  

Ōkahu Rākau contracted name for planting projects outside of the Whenua Rangatira numerous amounts of projects Henderson Valley (Anawhata Awa), Eskdale Reserve, Point England, Pourewa , Maungawhau ,Browns Bay, Ōrākei Rd, CBD just to name a few.

With this shift of Ōkahu Rākau, it allowed us to extend our Nursery capability to increase our volume of plants propagation but the same basic principles of employing our people educating, horticulture, landscaping, planting pallet designs.

Botanical and Māori names of plants their uses Rongoā raranga appropriate placements encompassing learnings of surrounding aspects of the environment 

No poisons allowed making this very labour-intensive work, instil work ethics , learning practical skills ,tool maintenance , chainsaws, scrub cutters, Mowing Tractors, small mowers, correct use of hand tools, Identification of pest plants, priority Native plant identification, Nursery work, propagation, eco-sourcing, learning maramataka, Bee Apiary, Parakore Composting, kai māra Worm Bins, Bokashi, Riparians, Pest trapping possums rats, mussel restoration at Ōkahu Bay, bird monitoring Lichen studies, Freshwater management Rain gardens NWŌ mātauranga and hītori.

The environment and climate conditions we work in are challenging always stoking the fires of passion and unifying a common with all human behaviours good and bad is a skill not often attained or recognised but on reflection it is the most rewarding  

From this Management Plan the Project at Pourewa uses all that knowledge gained of 20yrs to flourish and enhance NWŌ journey of manaakitanga to the greater people of Tāmaki Makaurau but most importantly the mana of our NWŌ Tāngata in connection with our lands and moana
