Are you ready to take an active role in the governance of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei?
This year's elections will be held to appoint five (5) whānau members to act as Elected Representatives of the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Trust (the “Trust”). The elections process and timetable is largely determined by the requirements set out in the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Trust Deed (“Trust Deed”) which you can download here.

Who can apply?
To be eligible to apply and be nominated to become a Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Trustee, you must fulfil the below requirements
- You are recorded as an adult member (aged 18+) on the register for Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Trust
- fulfil the eligibility requirements for being an officer of a charitable entity under the Charities Act 2025
- I have not been removed from the office of Elected Representative in accordance with clauses 13.3 and 13.5 of
the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Trust Deed within the last three (3) years - I authorise the Chief Returning Officer to make enquiry of relevant persons, authorities and records to confirm
any aspect of my nomination in accordance with the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Trust Deed, in particular in accordance
with schedule two (ELECTIONS OF ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES).
How do I apply? How can I be nominated?
- Nomination forms will be posted and made available online before nominations open.
- Candidates must provide a whakaahua (headshot) and a written candidate profile statement as part of the nomination form submission.
- Candidates and Nominators must be registered members of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei 18 years of age, or older. ie. those filling out the nomination form must be registered members of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei 18 years of age, or older. This information will be validated by the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei registration database.
- The Nomination process requires nomination support from five (5) registered members of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei 18 years of age, or older. Nominators will be required to declare their name, contact details and signature.
2025 Key Election Dates
- Nominations open Friday, 25 July 2025
The public notice of the elections and AGM will be published in the NZ Herald and online via epānui.
Voting packs will be posted to all registered adult hapū members (over the age of 18 years) with a valid postal address.
- Nominations close Friday, 15 August 2025
- Voting will close at 12.00 noon on Friday, 14 November 2025.
- The results will be announced at the 2025 Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei AGM on Sunday, 23 November 2023.
