Te Matatini ki Te Tōangaroa: Official Fan Zone

We’re excited to share that Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei is hosting one of only two Official Te Matatini Fan Zones, at Te Tōangaroa. After hosting the nation for Te Matatini Herenga Waka, Herenga Tangata 2023, we are honoured to once again extend our manaaki to whānau and manuhiri here in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Te Matatini, dubbed the Kapa haka Olympics, and where 55 kapa from across Aotearoa and Ahitereiria compete for the coveted title of national champion of Te Matatini 2025.  Click here for more information on the event including performance schedules.

Fan Zone Details

Date: Saturday, 1 March 2025

Location: Māhuhu ki te Rangi Park, Te Tōangaroa

Time: 8.00am to 5.00pm

Bring your whānau and friends down for an awesome day of kapa haka, kai and entertainment.

The top 12 finals kapa will be announced at the end of the preliminary performances on Friday, 28 February.

What to Expect

  • Big Screen Live Stream - Watch the Te Matatini finals with whānau. Bring your pōtae and picnic blankets.
  • Tamariki Activities - A fun-filled space for our Tamariki including a pūkana cam and poi making.
  • Kaumātua Zone - A dedicated VIP area for kaumātua, featuring shaded seating, designated restrooms and refreshments and kai. This zone is open to all kaumātua. To reserve a spot for a kaumātua, please complete the Kaumātua Zone registration form here.

Getting There!

Navigate your way to Te Tōangaroa (head towards Spark Arena)

  • From Ōrākei: Take the Tāmaki Link bus from the bottom of Kitemoana Street, which stops near Spark Arena on Quay Street and Beach Road, a 2-minute hīkoi to Te Tōangaroa.
  • From Britomart: A short five-minute hīkoi to Te Tōangaroa via Quay Street or Customs East to Beach Road.
  • Parking: Available within walking distance at Arena Carpark and other nearby public parking areas.

Whiria Te Kaha

Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei are proud to support our kaihaka, 50+ uri o Tuperiri and whānau who will be hitting the Matatini stage performing with their respective kapa across the week.
