Hauora, Sports & Recreational Centre

Toitū te hauora

We are excited to share that the planning for a proposed Hauora, Sports & Recreational Centre is progressing. For many years and for many of our whānau, such a facility has been but a dream.

This proposed project is underpinned by the notion of better health and wellbeing for our uri and community, and aligns to the strategic priorities in the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Long Term Strategy and the Masterplan.

Over the past few years, there has been an increased need for additional full-size indoor courts in the area, with amenities able to cater for both indoor and outdoor activities has become an evolving demand. Vital for alleviating existing capacity pressures on infrastructure in the community.

Grounded in the principles of manaakitanga, whānaungatanga, and kaitiakitanga, the facility places a significant emphasis on hauora, accessibility, and environmentally sustainable design.

Envisioned as an inviting and welcoming hub, the Hauora, Sports and Recreational Centre aims to foster a healthy and positive lifestyle for our whānau, while nurturing strong connections within the hapū and the broader community. Our commitment is to create a space that not only promotes well-being but also cultivates meaningful relationships and embraces responsible environmental practices.

For us, a desire to include an inviting space for actives and sports like kapa haka, netball, basketball, softball, pickleball and ensuring amenities suitable to gather and manaaki including a kīhini; and desirably would include a commercial fitness centre to assist with sustainability and also a quality destination café.

The proposed site will be in the vicinity of the Ōrākei Domain and will be located above the projected 100-year sea level mark.
