Episode 1 - Road to 2019 Taikura Kapa Haka

Taikura Kapa Haka held at Te Papa Museum every year is a significant event in the calendar for our Te Puru o Tāmaki Kaumātua roopu.

The invite only event held in Poneke allows kaumātua kapa haka groups from across Aotearoa to come together and perform on stage. Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei has been going for the past three years. This series of episodes from WHĀTUA – through the lens follows our kaumātua leading up to the big event, the train trip down to Wellington and of course their performance. Not only will we see the show and their wonderful performance, we are able to get a glimpse into the importance of kapa haka for this generation and how it’s improved their physical, mental and social “hauora”.
